From rough timber to finished piece
Every product we make — whether it's off the shelf or a full bespoke commission — goes through the same process. Here's how a piece gets from raw material to your home.
1. Brief & design
We start with a conversation — the space, the budget, how the piece will actually be used day to day. For commissions, we take measurements on site or work from your plans, and share sketches and material samples before anything is committed to.
2. Material selection
We hand-pick every board for grain, colour, and stability — nothing goes into a piece with structural defects hidden under a coat of finish. For epoxy work, boards are kiln-dried and stabilised before casting.
3. Building & joinery
Every joint is cut for strength first, appearance second — though with solid timber, the two usually go hand in hand. Larger pieces, like fitted media walls and storage suites, are built in sections in the workshop and assembled on site.
4. Casting & detailing
For epoxy river pieces, resin is poured in stages and cured over several days before the surface is levelled, sanded through multiple grits, and polished. Inlays and detailing — like our star-inlay serving trays — are cut and fitted by hand.
5. Finishing
Food-safe boards and trays are finished with food-grade mineral oil. Furniture is finished with hard-wearing oils or paints depending on the piece — always chosen for durability first.
6. Delivery & fitting
Smaller pieces are carefully packed and shipped or hand-delivered across Leicester and the East Midlands. Fitted pieces — media walls, storage suites, garden structures — are installed on site by us.
